Our DVD drive was a pretty nice (pretty expensive) and worked great for a while, but now it's broken. Now we've got to replace it. We had expected to find lots of plextor drives in the windows list of drives that are combatible, but there was only one on the list and that one was'nt even compatible. Getting a DVD player can be a big deal if you're searching the web for the best, but just going to the store and buying one can turn out better. My dad spent about three weeks finding the best of the best in DVD drives, ended up paying about 110$ and it broke as soon as the one year warranty was up. We're going to just buy one from the store this time, and I'll bet as much as it costs that this new one will last longer and work better.
This is a short list of DVD drives that we've found are compatable with Vista.
Staples is only half a mile from the house. We'll see what they have.
Memorex 18x internal double layer drive is on sale, a quick check on the windows ACL shows some memorex, but the compatability is unknown.
Stables has lots of drives by "IO magic" these are all relatively cheap, three of their drives are listed but all are unknown.
We've found some sony DVD drives that are vista compatible, the one that caught our eye was the "Sony DVD RW DRU 830 A" here's a link:
