After contacting the appliance company's tech support, they diagnosed the problem as a bad fan power cable and sent out a box of new power cables and the instructions to install them.
Opening the box of repair parts.
Once we got the boxes of repair parts we opened one up, and got out the wires we needed. then we went into the danger room and had a shoot out with "Mr. Bond" untill we were able to retrieve the instruction manual. We then went into the server and checked out the status of the appliance, it showed that fan2 had failed, so we really did have to go into the server. The first thing to do was to log into the system and shut it down through it's menu. then the server was powered down and then we unpluged the appliance. some of the cables were not distinctly different from each other, so we wrote down what went where. after safely taking out all the cables, we had to take out the appliance, which wehighed a hell of a lot, there were seven server gnomes, who asked us each three ridles, but they were gnomes so we basicly said whatever came to mind, and we could tell they were making it up as they went so we taped them to a ceiling fan. As we pulled, two long rails came out with the appliance and there were two purple tabs that we had to push in, in order to get it out (which is rather typical of latched hardware). Once out we simply took out the trusty ol' philips head (not Philip's head) and unscrewed the screws holding the top cover in place. Once we got the top cover off, we proceded to track the cable for fan2 (or so the diagram told us) to the iC2 board (the place all the cables pluged in). We pulled the cable for fan2 and replaced it, we reassebled it, placed it back in the iC2 board. We had to clip a few tightly closed plastic wire ties as well (if you use wire ties to hold your cables together always make them rather loose, as tightening them to much can damage the cables). Next we reassembled, and put the server back into it's rack, the small purple tabs had to be pulled out, rather than pushed in, in order to allow the server to slide back in. Once we got the server back in, we used our little key to help with putting the wires back in and once everything was in the right place, we powered the server back up (this time just by pressing the little button on the front).
